Meetings

We typically hold a campaign meeting on the last Monday evening of every month, with adjustments for bank holidays and no meeting in August or December.

The most up-to-date information on our next meeting will always be on our email discussion group and will be emailed in our newsletter.

In winter, our meetings are usually online. In summer we usually host them in-person, sometimes in combination with a ride to the venue—but we can arrange for people to join remotely if they need to.

AGM and Social: Monday 29th June, 7:30pm, Canning Town Library—with special guest Laura Laker

Laura Laker, a white woman with short curly hair, wearing a dark jacket, stands with a microphone answering questions.

Our Annual General Meeting! Alongside a small amount of admin, we will share some light refreshments and conversation, and hear a talk on “People Power” from local cycling legend Laura Laker. Please let us know if you are coming (below) so that we have enough refreshments. Hope to see you there!

Laura Laker is one of the most respected cycling journalists in the UK, with decades of experience and unparalleled connections across politics and campaign organisations. She co-hosts the Streets Ahead podcast with Adam Tranter and Ned Boulting, is the co-founder of Active Travel Media Awards, and has written for the Guardian, Sunday Times, road.cc, Cyclist, Cycling Plus and many others. She is the author of Potholes and Pavements, and of the UK’s first Road Collision Reporting Guidelines.

Canning Town Library is on Rathbone Market, Barking Road, and a 10 minute walk from Canning Town Station (Jubilee and DLR). Rathbone Market (J) bus stop is  a 2-minute walk from the library and is served by routes 5, 69, 115, and 147.

Please note we will be at the new Canning Town Library, which from the street is called Custom House & Canning Town Community Neighbourhood Centre—not the old Canning Town Library which is being converted into Newham Heritage Centre.

If you wish to stand for election to the Committee or vote on these proceedings, please bring evidence of your LCC membership.

Our Committee roles will be up for election at the AGM. Newham Cyclists is always seeking new volunteers to help on our mission to make cycling in our borough safe and fun for everyone. If you are interested in joining our Committee then please email us at newham@lcc.org.uk.

Please note: To be a member of our Committee you must:

  • Be a current member of the London Cycling Campaign
  • Have your address in Newham
  • Not be serving in any elected office, nor a candidate for elected office, since this would create a conflict of interest.

What happens at a Newham Cyclists meeting?

We discuss a variety of topics, including recent infrastructure developments for cycling in Newham, any areas in need of attention (of which there are many) and our campaigning priorities for the next month. We also typically discuss any work we’re doing with partner organisations, upcoming Fix Your Ride events, and any coming rides.

The meeting will be chaired by a member of our Committee.

Any of our members (as long as they have a current LCC membership & are resident in Newham) are welcome to propose a topic for discussion at the meetings, please email newham@lcc.org.uk if you would like to do so.

Please remember: Newham Cyclists and the LCC are politically neutral and independent. While we obviously discuss the merits of all parties’ policies and advocate to all political parties to improve cycling in Newham, our meetings are not a place for campaigning for any one party or candidate.
