Volunteer with us

Newham Cyclists is always looking for new volunteers to get actively involved in our campaigning!

We are only effective at our goals because of our volunteers. But advocating for safe cycling in our borough is a lot of work. We specifically need help year-round with:

  • General campaigning, for instance flyering & outreach work to local residents, business owners and community groups
  • Council relationship management (e.g. with politicians, elected officials, and officers)
  • Comms (e.g. social media, taking photos/video, talking to and writing articles for the local press)
  • Responding to consultations on behalf of the local group
  • Leading and marshalling rides
  • Organising events
  • Bike checker/mechanic at our monthly Fix Your Ride stall and at the start of larger rides

I want to help

First of all—you’re awesome! Secondly, please fill out our volunteers’ form so we have your details—you’ll get a reply from us soon!

Being on our Committee

We elect our Management Committee every year at our Annual General Meeting. The Committee has three formal officer roles:

  • The Co-ordinator, who organises our campaigning in conjunction with the LCC head office, and chairs meetings.
  • The Treasurer manages our finances, keeping accounts and submitting these and the budget to the group and to the LCC for every financial year.
  • The Secretary convenes meetings, organises communications to members and supporters, and keeps records. (This role is currently vacant and shared by the Co-ordinator and Deputy Co-ordinator.)

We also have non-officer roles on the Committee for people with a particular interest or responsibility on certain topics (for instance, representatives for infrastructure, rides, or a particular area of interest.)

If you are interested in joining our Committee then please email us at newham@lcc.org.uk—we can discuss what role might be best for you (or even create one.)

Please note: To be a member of our Committee you must:

  • Be a current member of the London Cycling Campaign
  • Have your address in Newham
  • Not be serving in any elected office, nor a candidate for elected office, since this would create a conflict of interest.
