We are effective because of our members and supporters—join us!

Newham Cyclists is a local branch of the London Cycling Campaign. By joining 12,000+ other members across London, you’ll be funding our vital work advocating for safe cycling in Newham. Plus you’ll get liability insurance and legal advice if you’re ever in a crash, discounts at bike shops, a quarterly magazine, and more.

If you’re under 30, over 60, an NHS key worker, or currently unwaged, you get a discount.

The more members we have, the stronger our voice is!

Newsletter

We send a newsletter every month, usually in the first week, with

  • the latest updates on our group activities
  • news about cycling developments in the local area
  • opportunities to volunteer and help out with making cycling in Newham safe & fun for everyone

You can unsubscribe at any time.

Social media

You may follow us on:

We no longer post on X (formerly Twitter).

We also have a WhatsApp group chat for discussion and coordination amongst our members and supporters. We invite newsletter subscribers and meeting attendees to join this group, but do not share an invite link publicly for security and spam prevention reasons.

Email discussion group

The email discussion group is where we discuss more detailed topics related to consultations, rides, campaigns and other miscellaneous Newham cycling matters.

You’ll get emails from General@newhamcyclists.groups.io.

Be careful! As with most mailing lists of this type, your messages to the discussion group will be publicly available online—potentially forever. Poster beware!

To prevent spam, your first post will be held for moderation until a Committee member can approve it. Please be patient.

Meetings

We typically hold a campaign meeting on the last Monday evening of every month, with adjustments for bank holidays and no meeting in August or December. An Annual General Meeting is where we elect our management committee and set our campaigning priorities for the year.

Volunteering

We are always looking for new volunteers to get actively involved in our campaigning! Advocating for safe cycling in our borough is a lot of work. We specifically need help year-round with:

  • General campaigning, for instance flyering & outreach work to local residents, business owners and community groups
  • Council relationship management (e.g. with politicians, elected officials, and officers)
  • Comms (e.g. social media, taking photos/video, talking to and writing articles for the local press)
  • Responding to consultations on behalf of the local group
  • Leading and marshalling rides
  • Organising events
  • Bike checker/mechanic at our monthly Fix Your Ride stall and at the start of larger rides

Want to help us with any of this? First of all—you’re awesome! Secondly, please fill out our volunteers’ form so we have your details—you’ll get a reply from us soon!
